Celebrating life through a lens
Kay grew up around the rural township of Lara and the saltpans of Avalon. Widely influenced by her mother’s love of documenting family life with a Box Brownie and a Kodak Instamatic, Kay pursued photography at high school from age fourteen, eventually majoring in it for her Year 12 art folio in 1983.
She later furthered her photography studies by completing short courses in Analogue Black & White Dark Room Techniques through the CAE in Melbourne, and Digital Mastery Techniques taught by renowned international photographer, Canadian, Mark Hemmings.

Her work has been published in the online version of the Swiss-based international magazine, Frames, as well as various presentations and podcasts for Frames magazine.

Kay finished Top 10 in both 2023 and 2024 for Australian Photography Magazine’s Photographer of the Year (Travel and Portrait) as well as being published several times in their competitions.

Her background is varied. A professional singer/songwriter for thirty years, she has also studied writing, business, and interior design. A painter with an interest in colour psychology, Kay has taught meditation and esoteric philosophies, and is an advocate for natural and alternative healing therapies.

Much of her photography (as well as her creative works across all mediums) centres around the exploration of mental health and mindfulness, with common themes celebrating hope, play, love, gratitude, and joy. Genres have included portraiture, street, architecture, urban details, happenstance, and landscape to name a few.
While she has a deep love for her country and often portrays scenes of Australian life and times, she equally has a passion for capturing international travel stories.

Not a fan of limiting herself to one particular style, Kay prefers to wait for inspiration to show up which often arrives unannounced, out of the blue.

Combining an artistic eye with mindfulness and her love of nature and humanness, Kay reminds us to see beauty in the detail, find gratitude in the ordinary, and feel the rhythm of life in the everyday.

"In a very focused way (pun intended) I've learnt so much about living in the moment, being in awe of the tiniest details, slowing down, and falling in love with the world over and over again through the lens of my camera. Photography sharpens my gratitude, keeps me mindful, and reminds me to add happiness to the world, not subtract from it. If people consider my images to be without meaning, then they have overlooked mankind's need to feel peace and joy."

Shine A Light Project
I've begun a new photographic undertaking called The Shine A Light Project to help highlight what's important to you, to me, to the planet, to mental health, wellbeing etc. The idea is not to create perfect portraits as such, but to capture something the subject would like to "shine a light upon". This project will cross all genres including (but not limited to) portraits. Whether it's animal, street, portrait, or still life, it must ultimately highlight some form of hope, thereby helping raise the vibration of an often difficult planet.
